The new rules ACB

The new rules come into force on 1 October 2010 with the start of the competition primarily influence the drawing of the playing field (affecting the area of three seconds and three-point line) and in possession time of 24 seconds. In this article we dig a little deeper into the details of the new rules and the effects they may have in our league.

Triple feet away

Perhaps the most striking and substantial change for next season is the departure of three-point line, which abanadonarĂ¡ the 6.25 meters from its foundation to reach 6.75. This modification also alter its form, since a perfect arc not leave room to shoot from the corners. So, fix an area of 0.90 meters on each corner, forcing the arch form to complete in two parallel lines (see graph).

How will this change to the CPF? The objective is to attack and leave more space for the attacking, either by shooting more comfortable (although more distant) or penetrate more easily. But ... change the firing rates of three? Will they adapt quickly specialists?

order to anticipate these responses, we could look at Adecco League Gold This year has already implemented the new distance for shots triples. It is very difficult to judge objectively what happened, as the most thoughtful analysis (such as Losnumerosdelbaloncesto.com) provide no significant difference in the game (perhaps an almost imperceptible decrease in the percentage of three and triples per game).

not appear to have to shoot from half a meter further hinder the success of the best shots, although perceived handicap in the shot from the corner. Although the distance from the corner is less than 6.75 (becoming 6.6 in the point closest to the basket), the little room (only 0.90 m) to the sideline more complicated stand, move and shoot in comfort from that position.

14 second offense possession after

This new rule will limit the time that is added to the shot clock after an infringement by the defending team (no personal or feet, mostly). Currently, if the attacking team is fouled, the shot clock goes up to 24 seconds when the ball gets back into play. The same with a short pass with his foot.

From next season, the same situation would be resolved by raising the shot clock to 14 seconds (in case they became less) or leaving it as if they became more than 14 seconds when the kick-back occurs in the frontcourt. If play resumes in the field of defense, continue placing the clock to 24 seconds, as before.

# Example: With 17 seconds on the clock possession, the attacking force a foul. By taking band, the clock will continue to run 17 seconds. The attacking team to circulate the ball until the defensive team cuts him with the foot being 12 seconds of possession. Levied on new band, now holding with 14 seconds on the clock.

The purpose of this rule is to shorten the punishing attacks unless the defensive effort. Thus, cost more than an attack on forever with possession of 24 seconds the result of foot faults and violations. Sought, therefore, most dynamic and fast attacks, while minimizing those situations in which a team tries to extend to the limit their possessions.

rectangular area and two new lines

One of the innovations that quickly draw the attention of fans when they see a field next season will be the new form of the restricted zone (zone three seconds).

Instead of the current trapezoid, the new area will be rectangular (see chart), the ring moving slightly higher positions in the fight for the rebound after free throw, bringing the most low. In addition, universal use of the semi circle allows offensive charges, as currently established in the CBA.

addition to these features, we should highlight two new lines, outside the field, on the sideline opposite the team benches and the table, to 8.32 m from the baseline (at the height of the new three-point line) in each of the sides of the court (see chart).

This line will indicate the point from which to make throw-ins after downtime during the last two minutes of the fourth quarter and extra periods instead of half-court, as usual.

The purpose of these rules is to promote attacking play, encouraging entries to the basket (through the semi circle of charge) and bringing the ball in the decisive final kicks of the match. The change in the shape of the area open spaces under the hoops, and benefits to the defensive team in the fight for the rebound after a free kick.

The effect will the new rules can not know yet, just anticipate. It was not until the start of the official competition, with the Supercopa ACB, for the first points of contact with the changes. Hopefully, as always, it comes out winning basketball.
